The final chapter is officially on the horizon. Square Enix closed out a major segment of Gamescom Opening Night Live with the reveal of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final installment of the remake trilogy, set to launch in Spring 2027.

High-Stakes Combat & Aerial Mechanics

The debut trailer immediately showcased a significant leap in scale. Cloud and the party were seen battling massive Weapons across completely open terrain. The active-time battle system has been further refined, heavily emphasizing aerial combat and party synergy. Characters can now launch enemies and pursue them into the air for extended combos, adding a verticality that was mostly absent in Rebirth.

Vincent and Cid were also confirmed as fully playable characters, complete with their own unique synergy abilities and limit breaks.

Visual Fidelity and Open World Design

Running natively on the PlayStation 5, Revelation appears to maximize the console’s hardware. The transition from the Highwind airship to ground exploration is entirely seamless, with no loading screens interrupting the descent.

  • Draw Distances: The environments showed breathtaking draw distances, with the Northern Crater looming ominously in the background of several shots.
  • Lighting: Heavy use of ray-traced ambient occlusion gave the character models a grounded, hyper-realistic presence within the world.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is shaping up to be a colossal undertaking, and it will be fascinating to see how the development team handles the final, universe-altering story beats.
